New to reusables
Congratulations on making the choice to go for real nappies! Although it can seem a bit difficult at first to get your head round all the different styles that are available, it all makes sense once you get your hands on some.

Real nappies in brief
Cloth nappies have evolved from the flat terry nappy + wrap arrangement you see on the left, although these are still a popular and economical choice.
Modern 'real' or reusable nappies can be just as simple to put on as a disposable nappy, like the 'Pocket' or 'All-In-One' cloth nappies you see on the right hand side of the diagram, with modern fastenings like velcro and poppers making the scary old nappy pin redundant!
Washable nappies can now come in some fabulous colours, fabrics and styles, are easy to launder, ('dry pailing' is now recommended, rather than soaking in Napisan), fast to dry, and super-comfy for your baby.
Apart from not clogging up landfill, using real nappies can also save you hundreds of pounds over using disposables. Most agree about £500 for your first baby, even including the cost of washing and drying cloth nappies. Savings for subsequent babies are even higher, as you already own the nappies!
For poo-disposal, you can use soft, biodegradable and flushable liners inside the nappy, and this means you won't be wrapping poo in plastic bags and storing it in your wheelie bins for up to two weeks... yuck!
You'll need on average about 15-20 nappies to go 'full-time' in cloth nappies, but we do recommend that you try a few different styles first to see which ones you like best. They all work, but you will definitely prefer some over others! Have a look at our Trial Bundles for some ideas!
