Who Are We?
Cheeks and Cherries is a family business run by Alix and Matthew Critchley since August 2009
We love what we do, and we hope you do too :@)
Why are we here?
Cheeks and Cherries is dedicated to making the world of reusables simpler to understand, and fabulously stylish too.
The site is designed for all those mums and dads who want to do the greener nappy thing, but don’t quite know where to start.
As a mum of three children under 6, this used to be me too.
I used eco-disposables with my first two children, and was only persuaded to give reusables a go when my sister gave me a couple of tiny but funky pocket nappies for my newborn son.
Loving the gorgeous designs, and amazed at how easy it was, as well as how much better for the environment, the household budget (and the smell of our bins!) I got online to work out what other nappies I could buy.
I was disappointed to find that most websites didn’t clearly explain what the basic choices were, or how to work out what I wanted by myself.
Faced with reams of impenetrable text, invited to choose on website home pages between brands I was totally unfamiliar with (Bambinex or Totsbots… whaaat???), and pages of Domestic Science lessons telling me about the virtues of vinegar in my wash, and I was not only baffled but slightly put-off.
Many wanted me to fill out questionnaires, or phone to arrange an appointment with an “advisor” (sales person) to talk me through the options.
With three children, one of whom was only a few days old, I didn’t want anyone calling, and didn’t have time to fill out questionnaires. I especially didn’t want Domestic Doris phoning to lecture me about green issues or how to manage my laundry.
Surely it was possible for someone to set out the information clearly so someone with an interest and half a sleep-deprived brain could work out what they wanted for themselves?
I also wanted to buy some beautiful-looking nappies. Why not have some gorgeous stylish nappies to show off, and make the whole nappy-changing business a bit more fun? Surely they didn’t all have to be white?
So, Cheeks and Cherries was born, almost exactly 9 months after I took the plunge and decided to ‘make my own job’, as my little girl puts it.

Cheeks and Cherries' Philosophy
1) Every little helps. Even just one reusable a day makes an appreciable difference to the amount in landfill by the time your little one is potty-trained. Don’t feel it has to be all or nothing.
2) Live and let live. Most families that use real nappies do also use disposables now and then, or more regularly. Disposables ain’t great, but most of us know that, we don’t need a lecture about it.
3) Functional can be fabulous. To paraphrase the famous phrase ‘Don’t put any nappy on your baby that you do not know to be useful or believe to be beautiful’. Preferably both.
